Just Playing
By Anita Wadley
When I’m building in the block room, please don’t say I’m “just playing”
For you see, I’m learning as I play, about balance and shapes.
Who knows? I may be an architect someday.
When I am getting dressed up, setting the table, caring for the babies.
Don’t get the idea I’m “just playing”. For you see, I’m learning as I play.
I may be a mother or a father someday.
When you see me up to my elbows in paint or standing at an easel, or moulding
and shaping clay, please don’t let me hear you say “He is just playing”
For you see, I’m learning as I play, I’m expressing myself and being creative.
I may be an artist or an inventor someday.
When you see me sitting in a chair “reading” to an imaginary audience.
Please do not laugh and think I’m “just playing”.
For you see, I’m learning as I play.
I may be a teacher someday.
When you see me combing the bushes for bugs, or packing my pockets with choice
things I find, don’t pass it off as “just playing”. For you see, I’m learning as I play.
I may be a scientist someday.
When you see me engrossed in a puzzle or some “plaything” at school.
Please don’t feel the time is wasted in “play”.  For you see, I’m learning as I play.
I’m learning to solve problems and to concentrate.
I may be in business someday.
When you see me cooking or tasting foods, please don’t think that because I enjoy it, it is
“just playing”. I’m learning to follow directions and see differences.
I may be a chef someday.
When you see me learning to skip, hop, run and move my body, please don’t say I’m “just
playing”. For you see, I’m learning as I play. I’m learning how my body works.
I may be a doctor, nurse or athlete someday.
When you ask me what I’ve done at school today, and I say, “I just played”
Please don’t misunderstand me. For you see, I’m learning as I play.
I’m learning to enjoy and be successful in my work. I’m preparing for tomorrow.
Today, I am a child and my work is play.

Week in Review

This week was another busy week.  We had another Fire Drill (we are becoming experts at what to do during fire drills). We had a tornado drill this week (we talked about sometimes when it gets really windy we need to find a safe spot to go).  The students did a great job going into the hall and finding a safe spot.
On Monday Mrs. Entwistle did a fun Nursery Rhyme Circuit with us in the gym.  For Wee Willy Winkie we climbed up the stairs to bed.  For Humpty Dumpty we carefully walked across the bench balance beam.  For Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star we jumped up high to reach the stars on the gym mats.  For Jack Be Nimble we jumped over the pretend candle sticks. The circuit was a ton of fun and sure got our heart rates up.

This week in health we talked about all the different ways we can exercise. The students shared some of their favourite ways to exercise dancing, cheering,  dog walking, running, jumping on the trampoline, and riding their bikes. We talked about why we should exercise  (we sleep better, we get more energy, our muscles and bones get stronger).  After our health lessons we were able to get outside and exercise during our Terry Fox run (everyone did a great job and got their heart rates up).  Thank you to everyone who participated!

This week we had a chance to use the Ipads for the first time. We did some letter tracing and spelling practice.

During Language we talked about the letter A. Check out the link below to hear the new song we listened to about the letter A.

Check out some of the fun letter A activities we completed this week below...

During math this week we worked on patterning. Check out some of the patterns we made this week...

Friday we celebrated western day. Check out our great outfits below.

We also celebrated three of our classmates who were recognized at our Caring Assembly. These students display kindness, honesty, positivity and respect regularly in our class.  Lots of our students display these character traits and it was hard to pick just three but we felt these three go above and beyond regularly to show kindness.

Next Week

Monday we are recognizing orange shirt day (please wear an orange shirt)Check out the link below to see what Orange Shirt Day is about...
