Week in Review

This week was another busy week.  We had another Fire Drill (we are becoming experts at what to do during fire drills). We had a tornado drill this week (we talked about sometimes when it gets really windy we need to find a safe spot to go).  The students did a great job going into the hall and finding a safe spot.
On Monday Mrs. Entwistle did a fun Nursery Rhyme Circuit with us in the gym.  For Wee Willy Winkie we climbed up the stairs to bed.  For Humpty Dumpty we carefully walked across the bench balance beam.  For Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star we jumped up high to reach the stars on the gym mats.  For Jack Be Nimble we jumped over the pretend candle sticks. The circuit was a ton of fun and sure got our heart rates up.

This week in health we talked about all the different ways we can exercise. The students shared some of their favourite ways to exercise dancing, cheering,  dog walking, running, jumping on the trampoline, and riding their bikes. We talked about why we should exercise  (we sleep better, we get more energy, our muscles and bones get stronger).  After our health lessons we were able to get outside and exercise during our Terry Fox run (everyone did a great job and got their heart rates up).  Thank you to everyone who participated!

This week we had a chance to use the Ipads for the first time. We did some letter tracing and spelling practice.

During Language we talked about the letter A. Check out the link below to hear the new song we listened to about the letter A.

Check out some of the fun letter A activities we completed this week below...

During math this week we worked on patterning. Check out some of the patterns we made this week...

Friday we celebrated western day. Check out our great outfits below.

We also celebrated three of our classmates who were recognized at our Caring Assembly. These students display kindness, honesty, positivity and respect regularly in our class.  Lots of our students display these character traits and it was hard to pick just three but we felt these three go above and beyond regularly to show kindness.

Next Week

Monday we are recognizing orange shirt day (please wear an orange shirt)Check out the link below to see what Orange Shirt Day is about...

September 17-21

This week we had our second fire drill of the year on Monday. Everyone did a great job exiting the school safely and quietly!
In gym, Mrs. Entwistle taught us a new game called Perfect Pass! We got to use the parachute this week. Using the parachute required a lot of team work. Our school motto “Nottawa Nighthawks Work Together” came in handy as we used the parachute. We also explored scooters in gym this week. Gym was a blast!
We had library this week and we were able to pick out a book to bring home for the week. The books are due back Tuesday. The students did a great job following the library expectations! Way to go Kindergarten's!
We had our first music class of the year outside. We sang and danced with our rhythm sticks. We loved being able to get outside for music! We sang "This is the way we tap our sticks", The Wheels on the Bus" and "Early in the Morning". We played our rhythm sticks quickly, slowly, loudly and quietly.
We have been focusing on recognizing and printing our names during our language time. As well as, learning about the letter “S”. Check out some of the fun activities we did this week.

Check out these letter S videos...

Look for some items around your house that start with S this weekend.
For math we continued to learn about sorting by shape, colour and size. Check out what we have been doing during math time. We even made it outside for a nature walk and took time to sort some of the items we found on our walk.

Week 2

Just like that our second week of school is done. We have had another busy week. We had our first fire drill. The students all did a great job exiting the school safely and quietly.
We went to visit Mrs. Johnson in the library. She taught us about the library expectations and routines. This week was just a visit. Next week we get to bring a book home. Please remember to return books on Day 1.
During class time we have been continuing to work on classroom routines and expectations. We have also been working on recognizing and printing our names. We have been working on sorting by different attributes (colur, shape and size). Try and find something around your house this weekend to sort.
For art we have been creating self-portraits. If you are in the school you should check out our class bulletin board to see the beautiful self-portraits the students have created. Try to find time to draw a picture of your family this weekend.

Thank you for taking the time to check out our class blog. Please check back next Friday for another update.

Welcome Kindergarten Families!

Welcome to our classroom blog. We have had a wonderful first week of school filled with lots of singing and stories. On Thursday we welcomed our Year 2 students. We are so proud of how well our Year 2's did helping out all our Year 1's with their first few days. All of our new students did a wonderful job. We know this year is going to be wonderful.

Our focus has been on classroom routines and expectations. The students are doing very well with these expectations and we are going to continue to work on them over the next month. We have spent a lot of time exploring the classroom with all of our new friends. We had our first visit to the gym this week. The students enjoyed playing with some scarves, hula hoops, balls and bean bags. The gym was a big hit and we cannot wait to get back next week. We are very lucky we have gym three times a week.

Please check out our class blog on Fridays for weekly updates. We are hoping that by looking at the blog as a family it'll help your child remember what they have done at school the past week. Once we have all permission forms back we are going to start posting pictures of the students and their work that we have permission to post.

Also, on the blog you can find some great links to websites that your child can use at home to help them with various skills. As well as, our class calendar. We hope everyone enjoys a restful weekend and we can't wait to see everyone Monday morning.
